Does basic psychological needs mediate relationship among recalled parental acceptance-rejection and parent's self-efficiency, marital satisfaction, life satisfaction

Whilst difficulties and deficiencies in the satisfaction of basic psychological needs cause negative effects in the personality development of individuals, children whose basic psychological needs are provided in a healthy way show healthier dynamics in adulthood. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the mediating role of basic psychological needs in the relationship among recalled parental acceptance rejection and parental satisfaction, marital satisfaction, and life satisfaction. However, the other purpose of the research is to investigate whether the mediating role of basic psychological needs differs according to gender in the relationship between among parents' acceptance-rejection and parental satisfaction, marital satisfaction and life satisfaction. The study group of the research consists of 250 adult individuals who they are married,they have children,also, they reside in Aydın. Five self-report scales (Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Scale-Short Form, Basic Psychological Needs Scale, Marital Life Scale, Parent Role Self-Perception Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale) were carried out to the participants, along with a personal information form regarding demographic information. SPSS and LISREL programs were used in the analysis of the data. The relationships between the variables were analyzed with the structural equation model (SEM). According to the findings of the research, it was found out that the basic psychological need variables were fully mediated the relationship between men's recalled of father acceptance-rejection and parental satisfaction, marital satisfaction and life satisfaction, whose mediation was examined. Nevertheless, it was found that there is no relationship of maternal acceptance. As a result of the study, according to gender, the other finding is that the basic psychological needs variable fully mediated the relationship between acceptance and rejection, which is women remember from their parents' relationship, and marital satisfaction and life satisfaction, but it was found no relationship with parental satisfaction. The findings of the study were discussed in the context of the relevant literature, the limitations and the strengths of the research were determined, and the suggestions were presented for researchers and those working in the field of family counselling.
