The effect of airport-airline strategic cooperation on airline operating performance: An empirical analysis of vertical cooperation

When the obligation of airline companies to interact with airports is seen as a strategic process that should be managed by airline companies, it is clear that the cooperation to be made will have positive results and that these collaborations can have an impact on the airline, passenger numbers, costs and revenues. The aim of the research is to determine the effects of strategic cooperation between airport operators and airline companies on airline companies. It has been revealed by previous studies that the variables reflecting the cooperation to be determined, such as the passenger density and number of passengers of the airline company at the airports, the number of the airport departure and landing flights of the airline company, the use of the airport facilities and terminal capacities, and the air traffic fees, have an effect on the airline business. However, it is important to determine how and in what direction these effects are. In this study, the panel regression analysis way of how the performance variables such as number of flights, number of passengers, occupancy rate, number of passengers per flight, revenue per seat km supplied, cost per seat km supplied are affected by the cooperation established between airport operators and airline companies. with the aim of determining According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis, it was concluded that the performance of the airline companies increased at the airport with which they cooperate. In addition, the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on airline business performance has been revealed by analysis.
