Abstract (EN)

Ill ABSTRACT A PROPOSAL FOR A PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS MODEL IN AIRPORTS AND APPLICATION TO AIRPORTS IN TURKEY Airports are one of the basic components of the air transportation system and generally monopolistic business enterprises. Therefore, taking profit as a sole criterion is not sufficient in airport performance evaluations. In this context, performance analysis becomes more essential for airport industry which requires huge investments for infrastructures and of which function emerges in providing social and economical benefit. In this sense, basic concepts regarding performance have been studied first and then the concept of performance analysis has been investigated in detail. According to these studies, a model including general and spesific performance criteria is constructed. In the final chapter of this study, the application of this model to the first eight biggest airports of Turkey in terms of passenger quantity is presented. Performances of Atatürk, Antalya, Esenboğa, A. Menderes, Dalaman, Adana, Trabzon and Milas- Bodrum airports in 1997, 1998 and 1999 are studied and compared. Based on this analysis, primary problems regarding performance and productivity of airports in Turkey are pointed out, and possible solutions are proposed.
