Student views and acquisition conditions for values in life study lessons

Abstract (EN)

This survey was aimed to determine the student perceptions, views and acquisition conditions which are gained in life study lessons for personal properties. For this aim, the survey was done by 166 students who are attending at the third class of elementary school in Kaman Province, Kırşehir City at 5 different school at 2014-2015 education term. Descriptive research was used and data was collected with a form which had 4 open-ended questions and 4 pictures related to the questions. Techniques of content and visual analyses were set to work. While the views of the students related to personal properties (love, charity, innovation and patriotship) were exposed to content analysis, drawn pictures related to personal properties were solved by visual analysis technique. The following results were obtained as a result of the survey: 1. As a response to a question of "Please write what comes to your mind as you hear the love", the students were replied mostly "loving a person (loving someone, loving a friend", "loving someone from family (mother, father, brother or sister, uncle, aunt etc.)" and "loving animals". 2. As a response to a question of "Please draw the pictures what comes to your mind as you hear the love", the students were drawn the pictures mostly related to "hugging, cuddling, holding hands","loving a person (loving a friend)" and ve loving someone from family (mother, father, brother or sister etc)" . 3. As a response to a question of "Please write what comes to your mind as you hear the charity", the students were replied mostly "helping the people, "helping to a friend" ve "helping the elders". 4. As a response to a question of "Please draw the pictures what comes to your mind as you hear the charity", the students were drawn the pictures mostly related to "helping the wounded people", "helping the people crossing in traffic" and "helping the elders" 5. As a response to a question of "Please write what comes to your mind as you hear the innovation", the students were replied mostly "technological innovations and inventions "innovations by Atatürk" and "being a new thing". 6. As a response to a question of "Please draw the pictures what comes to your mind as you hear the innovation", the students were drawn the pictures mostly related to "technological innovations and inventions", "being a new thing" and "being a student/ learning new information in the school". 7. As a response to a question of "Please write what comes to your mind as you hear the patriotship", the students were replied mostly "loving the homeland" and "be able to make the supreme sacrifice for homeland" "saving the homeland". 8. As a response to a question of "Please draw the pictures what comes to your mind as you hear the patriotship", the students were drawn the pictures mostly related to "loving the homeland", "loving our flag", "saying our national anthem enthusiastically" and "be able to make the supreme sacrifice for homeland". 9. Students have gained 8 out of 11 love sub-categories while they don't have gained 3 other love sub-categories in the program. 10. Students have gained all of 5 charity sub-categories in the program. 11. Students have gained 6 out of 11 innovation sub-categories while they don't have gained 5 other innovation sub-categories in the program. 12. Students have gained 9 out of 12 patriotship sub-categories while they don't have gained 3 other patriotship sub-categories in the program.
