Hayreddin ez-Zirikli's homeland poems

Arabic literature has witnessed many writers and poets in the modern period. Syrian poet Hayreddin Zirikli is one of these figures. This study examines Hayreddin Zirikli's life, works and his contribution to the political struggle of his time with his poems. Zirikli was nourished by scientific and cultural resources during his time and made scientific journeys to cities such as Damascus, Beirut, Cairo, Istanbul, Manisa, Taif and Morocco, which were considered the centers of science of the period. Zirikli, who held many bureaucratic positions, carried out the defense of the homeland with his literature throughout his life. Zirikli, who stands out with his Arab nationalism, is known for his patriotic identity in new-era Arabic literature. The poet, who spent his life fighting against imperialist powers with his pen, has inspired future generations and patriots. In this study, after the introduction, Zirikli's life and works are presented under subheadings in the first section. In the second section, Zirikli's poems with the theme of homeland are examined in the light of sources written on analysis methods. The chronological stages that Zirikli's understanding of homeland and sense of patriotism have gone through are revealed through these poems. As a result of the analyses, it has been determined that Zirikli's poems mainly deal with themes such as homeland, love of homeland, the sufferings of the Syrian people, the poverty he experienced, the difficulties brought by the British and French occupation, and longing for independence. In addition, there have been changes in the poet's understanding of homeland due to the developments he experienced in his life, and it has been seen that these changes are reflected in his poems.
