Abstract (EN)

This study investigates alternative raw material sources to meet the demand for sustainable construction materials. Particularly, it is believed that waste materials, such as animal by-products, could enhance the mechanical specifications and durability of asphalt concrete. The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility of utilizing bone powder achieved from Category 3 animal by-products to improve the mechanical specifications of asphalt concrete. Bone powder, processed through a hydrolysis procedure, was incorporated into asphalt concrete mixtures, and Marshall testing was performed using various percentages of bitumen. The experimental results indicate that the addition of 5% bone powder improves the maximum stability of asphalt concrete. Additionally, positive developments in the physical and mechanical specifications of asphalt concrete containing animal bone ash were observed. This study underscores the potential of animal bone ash in improving the mechanical specifications of asphalt concrete. However, further research and field tests are necessary to better comprehend the long-term effects of animal bone ash and its performance under different road conditions.
