Abstract (EN)
This thesis examines the impact of denim sandblasting and stonewashing practices in the ready-to-wear industry on human health and social life. Denim sandblasting is a fast and cost-effective method used to give denim fabrics an aesthetic appearance. However, it has been found that this process poses serious health risks to workers and adversely affects their social lives. The aim of the study is to evaluate these effects from a multidimensional perspective. The study utilized literature review and field research methods. Through the literature review, existing studies at both global and national levels were assessed, while the field research collected data on the working conditions, health statuses, and social lives of workers. The findings indicate that workers develop respiratory diseases, particularly silicosis, due to silica exposure during denim sandblasting. This not only negatively affects their physical health but also disrupts family and social relationships. The results of the thesis demonstrate that the risks faced by denim sandblasting workers are associated with the lack of occupational safety standards and insufficient regulatory inspections. Additionally, it was found that a significant portion of the workers are uninsured, face difficulties accessing healthcare services, and encounter severe economic challenges. The study suggests that increasing occupational safety measures, promoting alternative production methods, and developing policies to protect workers' rights are essential steps to address these issues.
