The influence of Hegelian concept of 'desire' on Lacanian philosophy

The aim of this dissertation is to state Lacan's ideas developed through the influence of the concept of "desire" which has an important place in Hegel's philosophy. The main point in this study is to explain how desire turns into a psychoanalytic theory in Hegelian thought and how it is employed by Lacan. The relationship between the conscious and unconscious in psychoanalytic theory, their differences and similarities and the idea of self-consciousness are discussed. By reexamining Lacan's philosophy, the thesis struggles to reevaluate his philosophy as "the philosophy of desire". The main idea of the dissertation is to display the route Lacan's philosophy follows and explore Hegelian impacts on his philosophy through discussing Lacan's ideas and concepts in terms of psychoanalysis and philosophy. It can be regarded as "the critique of the subject" and explains that criticism, as well. The other point outlined in the dissertation is to analyze the occurrence of dialectical thinking as "the critique of the subject". The main question in the paper is to reveal how the philosophy of the subject in its Hegelian understanding evolves into a lost and alienated subject through Lacan's ideas.
