Abstract (EN)
The success of hemodialysis treatment is closely related to the adaptation of individuals to the disease and treatment process. This study was conducted to evaluate the level of compliance, symptom management and affecting factors in individuals receiving hemodialysis treatment, and to determine the relationship between disease compliance and symptom management. This descriptive study was conducted with 254 individuals receiving hemodialysis treatment. The research was carried out in the dialysis centers of Yozgat City, Private Yozgat Gökmedrese and Kırşehir Training and Research Hospitals between July and September 2021. Research data were collected using Hemodialysis Patient Descriptive Form, Dialysis Symptom Index and Chronic Disease Adjustment Scale. The mean age of the individuals participating in the study was 62.08±15.86 years. The mean score of Individuals' Adjustment to Chronic Diseases Scale was 81.38±12.19, the highest score of the scale sub-dimensions was "Physical Adjustment" (38.07±6.09), the lowest score was 'Social Adjustment' (23.66±3.39). ) sub-dimension. It was determined that the total scores of the Individuals' Adjustment to Chronic Diseases Scale differ significantly according to gender, marital status, educational status, economic status, employment status, duration of hemodialysis treatment, having another chronic disease, and access to the vein (p<0.05). The mean Dialysis Symptom Index score of the individuals participating in the study was 57.67±21.69. It was determined that the Dialysis Symptom Index scores of individuals differed significantly according to their education level, weekly hemodialysis session, duration of hemodialysis treatment, presence of another chronic disease, and vascular access (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a low-level negative significant correlation between the scores of the Chronic Disease Adjustment Scale and the Dialysis Symptom Index scores (r=-0.155; p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that the compliance with the general disease of the individuals receiving hemodialysis treatment was moderate, the level of experiencing dialysis symptoms was below the average, and the dialysis symptoms decreased with the increase in compliance with the disease. It is recommended to prioritize interventions that will increase compliance with the disease in reducing symptoms in individuals receiving hemodialysis treatment.
