The evaluation of predicting severity of preeclampsia with the role of hemogram parameters

Abstract (EN)

Early diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia, which has a high incidence in pregnant women and is one of the leading causes of both fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality, is important. This study aimed to determine the role of hemogram parameters taken at the time of admission to the hospital in predicting preeclampsia and/or the severity of preeclampsia in patients admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of preeclampsia and selected as the control group. A total of 198 pregnant women with preeclampsia (preeclampsia group), 158 with severe preeclampsia and 40 with non-severe preeclampsia, who applied to a tertiary center between January 2018 and December 2019, were included in this study. As the control group, 126 pregnant women who had a healthy pregnancy were included in the study. Among the hemogram parameters of these patients at the time of first admission, parameters such as hemoglobin (HB), hematocrit (HCT), platelet count (PLT), neutrophil count, mean platelet volume (MPV), mean red cell volume (MCV), mean red cell distribution width (RDW), platelet crit (PCT), mean red cell hemoglobin (MCH), mean red cell hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and leukocyte count was recorded. In addition, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (TLR), monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and platelet/neutrophil ratio (TNR), which are systemic inflammatory response markers, were calculated from the same blood sample. While there was no significant difference between the groups in the statistical analysis of MCV, MPV, NLR, and TNO, which are the parameters studied in PE groups with and without severe features, a statistically significant difference was found between the control group and the preeclampsia group in these parameters. As a result, we think that the development of preeclampsia can be predicted with the hemogram parameters MPV, MCV, TNO and NLR, which are simple and inexpensive tests and can be accessed in almost every hospital, in predicting preeclampsia, which is effective on maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality.
