Abstract (EN)

Objective: This research was done to aim evaluate the effect of training and visual materials provided to nurses on knowledge of ventrogluteal injections and regional preferences. Material and methods: The study was conducted as a non-randomized pre-test, post-control group experimental clinical design in two public hospitals between January and October 2019. The sample of study consisted of 105 nurses working in public hospital, and nurses working in the control group. The data were collected by questionnaire, then the nurses in the experimental group were intervened and the questionnaires were reapplied to both groups after one and five months.Data were analyzed with number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t test, one way Anova, Chi square and McNemar test. Results: In the experimental group, the rate of preference for the ventrogluteal region and the injection status increased after the intervention, remained stable in the control group. In the study, it was found that the mean post-test knowledge scores of the nurses in the experimental group were significantly higher than the pre-test knowledge scores (p <0,05), there was no significant change in the control group. Conclusion: It was observed that the education given, and the visual material provided had positive effects on the knowledge level of the nurses about the ventrogluteal region, the preference of them as intramuscular injection site and their application to this region. It is envisaged that the injection of ventrogluteal region with in-service trainings to nurses and the presence of hanging visual materials in the application areas will increase the use of ventrogluteal region.
