The art of cinema has been a dynamic field of expression that has constantly evolved throughout history and been shaped by global interactions. One of the national cinemas most strikingly affected by this process of transformation is Indian cinema. The radical changes that took place in the mid-20th century paved the way for the formation of a universal cinematic language that went beyond traditional narrative forms. One of the most important architects of this transformation, Satyajit Ray, is an auteur director who has profoundly influenced not only Indian cinema but also the history of world cinema. Ray achieved unique innovations in cinematic language, successfully blending Western cinematic techniques with Indian traditional aesthetics in a distinctive manner. Influenced by the Italian Neorealism movement, the director demonstrated his ability to convey local stories with universal sensitivity, particularly through the narrative structure he employed in the Apu Trilogy. However, despite possessing such a rich filmography legacy, Ray's cinema has not received the academic attention it deserves. This study aims to analyze Ray's cinema in detail, particularly in the context of auteur theory, which has not been sufficiently explored. The dichotomy between the West and tradition in the director's films, the distinctive features of his cinematic style, and the way he addresses universal themes in a local context form the main focus of this research. The analysis of Ray's cinematic language is of great importance not only for the history of Indian cinema but also for understanding the development of cinema as an art form on a global scale. In this context, the study aims to fill an important gap in cinema literature and bring Satyajit Ray's cinematic legacy the academic attention it deserves.
