Evaluation of the lignite deposits in Hinis-Zirnak (Erzurum) region

This study covers the evaluation of lignite sources around the Hınıs-Zırnak area in Erzurum and provides details on methods for determining lignite reserves. Using the database constructed from the information obtained from drilling and mining operations previously done in this area, two things were accomplished. First, using indicator geostatistical methods, the boundaries of coal mines were determined. Second, the mathematical functions that relate coal-thickness within these boundaries to the distance from the surface were estimated. Using these mathematical functions together with geostatistical methods, a detailed account of lignite reserves was estimated. As a comparison, lignite reserves were also estimated using a well-known polygon method.
