Abstract (EN)

The 19th century was a period when the Ottoman Empire continuously struggled with uprisings in the Balkans due to the rise of nationalist movements in the region. During this time, as the sparks of Croatian national awakening were igniting, a young Croatian writer and traveler named Matija Mažuranić embarked on a journey from his hometown of Karlovac, Croatia, to Bosnia to observe these events firsthand and to understand daily life. After returning to his country, Mažuranić published a book based on the notes he took during his travels. This book was later recognized as the first travelogue in Croatian literature. This work also includes numerous borrowed words that entered Bosnian and Croatian from Turkish as a result of cultural interactions. In our study, these borrowed words will be meticulously examined, and their usage in 19th century Bosnia will be analyzed in detail. This analysis will shed light on the linguistic and cultural structure of this region, which was under Turkish rule for many years, and provide a significant perspective on the use and influence of Turkish words.
