An interdisciplinary approach to the relationship between law and literature: The importance of literature in legal education

Titled "An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Relationship between Law and Literature: The Importance of Literature in Legal Education", this study explores the relationship between law and literature, aiming to elucidate their commonalities and distinctions. The exploration of law's association with other disciplines stems from the necessity to introduce novel perspectives and broaden the scope of legal studies. The relationship between law and literature is approached through two fundamental perspectives. The first, "law in literature," focuses on enriching legal discourse by addressing legal matters within literary texts. The second, "law as literature," involves interpreting legal texts and court decisions utilizing literary techniques. In an era where legal regulations often reduce to mere mathematical formulations, causing damage to legal interpretation and jurisprudence, the study emphasizes the significance of legal theory, philosophy, sociology of law, and the intersection with literature - collectively shaping the intellectual dimension of law. Literature not only introduces fresh viewpoints and experiences but also aids in comprehending and assimilating legal principles, thereby enhancing interpretative capacities. Qualitative research echoes these findings, indicating that while the relationship between law and literature spans over a century globally, it has only been prevalent in our country for the past two decades. Nevertheless, there has been a surge in academic endeavors exploring this relationship in Turkey, particularly within the last 15 years, showcasing a growing interest in this field. This study aspires to contribute to this domain and serve as a foundation for future research endeavors by centering on this intricate relationship.
