Abstract (EN)

The thesis named "İbn Ishaq's Life and Contribution to Islamic History" consists of introduction and two parts. In the introduction part, it has been tried to give information about the subject, purpose and importance of the thesis. In the introduction part, the methods followed during the writing of the study, and various researches such as theses, articles and books on İbn Ishaq in Turkey have been examined. In the first chapter, the life of İbn Ishaq is emphasized. In this section, various information about when and where he was born, his family, lineage, appearance, and death is given. In addition, in this section, the places where İbn Ishaq lived during his education life, the places he visited for education, his students and teachers have also been tried to be explained. In the second part of the thesis, the works attributed to İbn Ishaq are emphasized. In addition, the original method he followed as a historian, the praises and criticisms made to him have been tried to be emphasized. In the conclusion part, it has been concluded that the reason why the information about İbn Ishaq's family, whose date is relatively distant to him, is known while the information about him is limited is because of the negative effects of the scholars contemporary to him. When we look at the general studies done in Turkey, it is seen that they were prepared on İbn Ishaq's works and their contents. Since the majority of those who prepared these studies were experts in the field of hadith, İbn Ishaq's works were studied like a hadithist, forgetting that he was an Islamic historian. Therefore, in the studies conducted, it has been concluded that the narrations and method of him were misjudged. Keywords: İbn Ishaq, Siyar, Maghazi, The History Of İslam.
