Abstract (EN)

The evaluation and care of elderly patients becomes much more important with the increasing average of age in the world. The advancing life expectancy enhances the importance of life quality and maintaining functional independence in older individuals. The concept of capacity, which has been on the agenda in recent years, reflects the combination of different functions that a person can perform and the preference of him among these functions. ICECAP-O [ICEpop CAPability measure for Older people] has been developed as a capability measure focusing on the well-being/welfare rather than health the elders. In this study, it was aimed to adapt the ICECAP-O capability measure to Turkish and to assess its validity and reliability among the people aged 65 and over applying to a health institution. A questionnaire questioning the sociodemographic characteristics and health status of 239 people aged 65 and over who applied to the family medicine polyclinics of a training and research hospital in Ankara within the research date range was carried out. In addition, the General Health Questionnaire-12 evaluating the mental well-being, the EQ-5D-3L evaluating the quality of life and the Turkish adaptation of ICECAP-O measure were also applied. In this study, it was shown that; the Turkish adaptation of ICECAP-O has been evaluated as acceptable at average –high levels in terms of reliability and validity in total measure. A strong and significant correlation was found between the Turkish version of the ICECAP-O measure and GHQ-12 and EQ-5D-3L and EQ-VAS. In this study, age, retirement status, educational status, marital status, income status, presence of regular physical activity or of chronic disease, multimorbidity, drug use status and happiness level were found to be associated with the ICECAP-O measure score, in other word; the older individual's capability.
