The problems encountered by teachers in German teaching as second foreign language

The aim of this study is to examine the problems encountered by teachers in German teaching as second foreign language. The study group of research consist of 32 permanent, contractual and paid German teachers worked in high schools located in Elazığ city center, in 2016-2017 academic year. Case study which is a qualitative research design was used for this study. The sampling for qualitative data was determined through convenience sampling. The study data were collected an interview form developed by the researcher. The interview form was designed by making a literature review and preparing the questions such as to provide content validity. These questions were presented to expert opinion. Descriptive analysis technique was used to analyse the data. According to the research findings, German teachers stated the necessity of German language teaching as a second foreign language. The problems encountered by German teachers while using teaching method and techniques result from environmental factors and not break the routine. The teachers attended to the study sort the insufficient assessment and evaluation related to language skills and being preferred of written exams more for assessment and evaluation as the fundamental problems. The fundamental problem in terms of classroom tasks is stated as the lack of activities for four basic skills. While the indifference and of unwillingness of students are another problem, especially professional illiteracy and lack of motivation of teachers are considered as problem status related to teachers. Beside this, there are some problem status related to students' parents. Especially they do not find this lesson beneficial, and this situation affects the students. In this context, some problems based on physical environment of the school are determined through teachers' views. To minimize all this problem status, Teachers offer some suggestions about what teachers to do as official, teachers and other stakeholder to do, and suggestions about resources and materials.
