The societal and environmental impacts of climate change in iİzmir (flooded)

Global climate change is one of the most pressing issues rapidly altering the world's environmental balance. This thesis aims to analyze the impacts of rising sea levels on İzmir, a major coastal city, while culminating in a fictional film titled "Flooded." Based on the IPCC's 5th and 6th Assessment Reports, the research thoroughly examines the risks İzmir's coastal regions may face between 2050 and 2100. The study encompasses the socio-economic impacts of rising sea levels and their implications for urban planning and infrastructure. The findings underscore the urgent need for action plans to prevent irreversible damage to İzmir due to rising sea levels. In this context, the fictional narrative titled "Flooded" explores a scenario where İzmir faces the devastating effects of climate change, combining scientific and artistic perspectives. Throughout the film, the protagonist's struggle with hunger, thirst, and loneliness presents the human dimension of scientific realities. Issues such as rising sea levels, ecological imbalance, ocean acidification, restricted access to food and water, and the existential threat to İzmir are supported by IPCC reports and scientific data. The fictional narrative not only tells a compelling story but also aims to raise awareness about environmental challenges. This thesis seeks to contribute to raising awareness about global environmental issues while guiding İzmir's future environmental adaptation strategies.
