Ikrime al-Berberi and his place in the science of tafsir

Almighty Allah (c.c.) sent the last divine revelation to humanity, about fourteen centuries ago, by means of the last prophet Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and gave him the task of explaining this revelation to his interlocutors too. The Prophet (pbuh) duly assumed this duty, conveyed and interpreted the divine message to his interlocutors on different occasions. With the death of the Prophet (pbuh), this duty was undertaken by the Companions and continued by expanding it. The Tabiin generation that came after the Companions took over of this tafsir heritage that was passed on to them and raised valuable personalities in this field, one of them is Ikrime al-Berberi. The period of Ikrime al-Berberi Tabiin, who also has a say in the sciences of hadith, fiqh and recitation, has an important place in terms of tafsir activities. Although a tafsir book belonging to Ikrime al-Berberi is mentioned in the sources, this work has not in our hands. Nevertheless, his narrations about tafsir are widely available in classical tafsir sources. In this study, the understanding of tafsir of Ikrime al-Berberi, one of the scholars of the Tabiin period, and the methods he used while interpreting the verses, were revealed by making use of the works of the pristine type and various sources of traditional and rational that give information about our tafsir scholar.
