Analysis of managerial competencies of pharmaceutical company managers in terms of competitive strategies

Turkey's pharmaceutical sector, where national and international competition is intense, it is quite an important sector in terms of strategic point of view. Despite of this reality, Turkey's pharmaceutical sector has not reached yet sufficiently competitive in the world market. Being able to increase the performance of the company and to maintain this in the long term has made it inevitable to use strategic competition tools. The aim of this study is; the Porter's (1984) model, which includes the activities (five forces analysis and value chain analysis) that forms the basis for the formation of competitive strategies, is applied by the pharmaceutical company managers at what level of competence in their companies. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to 453 pharmaceutical company managers. IBM SPSS Statistics 20 program was used for the analysis of the collected data. Descriptive statistics for the data have been prepared. When managerial competence situations are analyzed in terms of competitive strategies; 54.1% of pharmaceutical company managers were found to be competent and 45.9% were not. It has been determined that the variables "Gender", "Exporting Status of Firms", "Age", "Education Status", "Position in the Firm", "Firm Trade Name" and "Firm Age" are effective in managerial competence levels (p <0.05).
