The use of materials obtained with upcycle in architecture and the level of awareness

In parallel with the increasing population and dense construction, the nega-tive effects of humanity on the natural environment are increasing day by day. Ma-jor problems such as unconscious consumption of natural resources, inefficient use of energy, and increased costs for resource supply affect the construction industry as well as every other field. In the building sector, which has an important share in waste generation, the use of alternative building materials obtained by recycling waste materials for a sustainable future has come to the fore as an important issue. The aim of this study can be summarized as to examine the usability of building materials obtained by up-cycle in architecture through the structures in the literature and to determine the awareness levels and usage tendencies of architects on this subject through a survey study. In this direction, 24 structures using materials obta-ined by upcycling from different geographies in various scales and functions were examined. In addition, a survey was conducted to determine the level of awareness of architects about transformation. In line with the data obtained, an evaluation was made on the materials obtained by upcycling and their areas of use, and suggestions were presented.
