The relationship of the communication skill with the conflict tendency and perceived parental attitudes

The aim of this study is to analyse the correlation between the conflict tendency parental attitude and the communication skill of the eighth grade students.The sample of the study is 266 eighth grade students who have education at Süleyman Türkmani, Cumhuriyet, 75. Yıl IMKB and Atatürk Primary schools in Kırşehir Central District in the 2011-2012 academic year.In this study, the genral screening model (survey) was used. ?The Communication Skills Rating Scale? by Kuzgun, ?the Conflict Tendency Scale? by Dökmen, ?the Parental Attitudes Scale? by Eldeliklioğlu were used so as to collect data in the study. The survey data was analysed by the ?t? test, the one-way analysis of variance, the Scheffe test.In consequence of the study; it was determined that the communication skill of the eighth grade students at primary school was at the high level and this hadn?t become different in regard to sex, level of income and educational levels of the parents. It was determined that the conflict tendency of the students was at the medium level. It was determined that the conflict tendency of the students hadn?t become different in regard to sex but it was inversely proportional to the level of income and the educational levels of the parents.It was specified that the communication skill of the students whose parents? attitude is democratic was higher and the communication skill of the students whose father?s attitude is unpermissive was lower. Besides, it was seen that there was a meaningful negative relationship between the communication skill points and the personal characteristics, humanistic approach, jaundiced-conflict, total refusal conflict points from the sub-dimensions of the conflict tendency.It was seen that there was a meaningful negative relationship between the democratic parents points and the conflict tendency; there was a meaningful positive relationship between the unpermissive-preventive parental attitudes and the conflict tendency.Key words: Communication Skill, Conflict Tendency, Parental Attitude
