Lignite possibilities of Ilgin (Konya) region and determination of its econumical value

This study, includes drilling–geophysical, chemical analysis and palynology studies of lignites of Ilgın (Konya) Neogene Basin, which was studied during 2011 – 2013 by MTA under the project "Konya – Ilgın Neogene Basin Lignite Project" at Ilgın (Konya) surroundings. The aim of this study is to determine the lignite veins within the Pliocene aged Dursunlu formation, which is is overlain by the Quaternary cover sediments, the geometry of the lignite formation within the basin, economic potential, spreading, chemical features, reserv and potential usage of the lignite by determining the locations of possible coalification zones in the study area. The lignite veins are formed within the Pliocene aged Dursunlu formation that composed of white, yellow, gray, green, red coloured sandstone, siltstone, claystone, marl and mudstone. The pysical properties of the coals within the Dursunlu formation are identical with the rest of the basin. The lignites are light brown, brownish, blackish colored, moderate hardness and brittle, have thin-moderate beddings. Rare sandy, silty, clayey, organic painting and fossiliferous (gidya) level alternations are observed within the veins. The Sporomorph assemblages obtained from the drill core from Ilgın (Konya) area are dominated by undifferentiated Pinaceae, Engelhardia and deciduous Quercus. According to the complete original analytical values of the coal, the coal has 48,96 % water, 10,78 % ash, 23,46 % volatile substance, 16,81 % fixed carbon, 0,86% flammable sulfur, 2,64% sulfur in ash and 2163 Kcal/kg low heating value. The isopac maps related to the obtained complete coal analysis values are plotted. The visible (Proved) reserve of the coal is calculated about 30.609.970 tones.
