Satisfaction and commitment in relationship: Role of investment, perceived reward and perceived threat

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between relationship satisfaction and relationship commitment in adult individuals' romantic relationships, and the mediating role of investment in the relationship, perceived reward, and perceived threat. The sample of the study consists of 315 adults who have a romantic relationship or have a relationship experience for more than 6 months. Demographic Information Form, Relationship Stability Scale and Perceived Social Threat/Reward Scale were used in the study. SPSS 25.0 program was used in descriptive and relational analyzes, AMOS 22.0 in confirmatory factor analysis performed within the scope of scale adaptation, and Hayes Process Macro 3.5 in model tests.As a result of the analysis, a positive relationship was found between relationship satisfaction and relationship investment, relationship commitment and reward. A negative relationship was found between relationship satisfaction and threat. When the relationship between relationship satisfaction and demographic variables is examined; relationship satisfaction scores did not differ significantly according to gender and age. There is a positive relationship between relationship investment and relationship satisfaction, relationship commitment, reward and threat. Considering the relationship with demographic variables; It can be said that women have higher average investment points than men, and younger people invest less in their relationships compared to older people. There is a positive relationship between relationship commitment and relationship satisfaction, relationship investment, and reward. No statistically significant relationship was found between relationship commitment scores and threat scores. It is seen that commitment scores do not differ significantly according to gender. The commitment scores of the 18-25 age group were lower than all age groups. The findings of the study show that reward has a partial mediating role in the relationship between relationship satisfaction and relationship commitment, while threat has no mediating role. It has been observed that relationship satisfaction is related to relationship commitment both directly and indirectly through investment. The results reached within the scope of the research findings were discussed in the context of the relevant literature. Keywords: Relationship Stability, Social Threat, Social Reward
