Evaluation of stress and anxiety levels and perceptions of patient safety culture of the first and emergency aid technicians: Paramedic association example

The aim of this study is to evaluate the occupational anxiety levels of first and emergency aid technicians and their perceptions of patient safety culture. Questionnaire technique, one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the study. The research population consists of all 112 first and emergency aid technicians in Istanbul. Since reaching the whole population involves time and cost, the sample was determined. The sample of the research consists of members of the Paramedic Association and 112 first and emergency aid technicians working in Istanbul. The sample of this research consists of 255 people reached. In this study, demographic information form, occupational anxiety scale for emergency health workers and patient safety culture scale were used as data collection tools. The data collected from the research were analyzed with SPSS 25.0 package program. According to the findings, it was determined that the occupational anxiety of 112 first and emergency aid technicians showed significant differences depending on demographic variables such as gender, age, years in the profession, occupational happiness, working style, working conditions, workplace intensity, patient safety training, and willingness to receive patient safety training. It was also found that patient safety culture perceptions showed significant differences depending on demographic variables such as gender, age, marital status, educational status, years in the profession, professional happiness, working style, working conditions, workplace intensity, patient safety training. It was found that there was a negative and low-level significant relationship between patient safety culture and occupational anxiety, bodily, physical and vital concerns, concerns about the environment, employees, equipment and environmental factors. Patient safety culture negatively affects occupational anxiety. Management and leadership, employee training, unexpected events and error reporting, care environment negatively affect occupational anxiety.
