Graphic design analysis of illustrations that are in the course books of natural science & social studies and in mathematics-Turkish at 1st level - 1st year primary schools ,

The goal of this research is to analyse graphic design of illustrations that are in the course books of natural science & social studies and in mathematics-turkish at 1st level - 1st year primary schools.15 1st level primary school teachers from 4 different schools which are in the centre region of Bolu took part in this research during 2007-2008 study year.In this research, field studies have been done, interviews have been done with primary school teachers who are picked from different schools and consultants are used to prepare questionnaire that is used in the interviews.An approval has been given by Prof. Erol Özden and Assistant Prof. Ahmet Yıkmış while preparing questionnaire and determining validity-realiability of this questionnaire that is used to collect data.T tests are used to analyse the collected data and graphic design of the questionnaire.According to the results of the interviews and questionnaires that are done with different teachers who were picked from different schools;1.Pictures that are in the school books for children have a big effect,2.Pictures for children are partly suitable for primary school programmes,3.Graphical layouts of the pictures are not adequate,4.Pictures have bad quality press and do not have enough explanations for each,5.There is lack of numbering,6.Some of the pictures does not fulfil the purpose of the text,7.Picture-text relations are partly well-thought in terms of aesthetic,8.Shapes, graphics and maps that form the layouts of the pages affect the learning level of children.Keywords: Illustration, Graphics, Design
