Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare the success levels of primary school grade4-5 students who know how to play chess and who do not (in terms of) four-operations & problem-solving in natural numbers.The sampling consists of the primary school grade 4 and 5 students in Bolucity centre who know how to play chess (40 4th graders and 48 5th graders) and whodo not (40 4th graders and 48 5th graders).The instruments for data collection in the study were a chess test to chess testto measure the chess competence and four-operations & problem-solving test, relatedto the natural numbers in Mathematics course, to measure the four-operations &problem-solving skills.The findings indicated a statistically significant difference between theprimary school grade 4 and 5 students who know how to play chess and who do not,in the four-operations & problem-solving test in favor of the students who know howto play chess.Key Words: Chess, Problem Solving, Natural Numbers, Four Operations,Academic Success
