An investigation on the relation between the success of fifth class? students? on performance works and the rate of their family support on educational ?teaching works

The aim of this study is to find out the relation of the fıfth class students? success on performance works and the rate of their family support.It ıs also pointed out that the fıfth class? students? parents participation ın educational works is affected by such factors as social - economic level, age,sex,job,relation with the child,educational situation or not and whether that of support has an important effect on their success rate .It is also searched the views of fıfth class? teachers and parents on parent participation,experiences through this process,performance works and the duration of this by means of the this study.It is a descriptıonal study on correlational scan model.On the quantitative point,ıt is studıed with 297 fifth class? parents differing in social economic level in six schools of Mersin,Tarsus ;thus, the rate of their involvement is found by family involvement questionnaire developed by Fantuzzo ,Tughe and chılds(2000) and the socıal economic level is indicated by a questionnaire developed by Bacanlı(1997).The relation between the students? performance scores of Turkısh,Maths,Scıence and Social Scıence and family involvement is compared.On the qualitative point ,it is interviewed with eight volunteer teachers of family involvement scale classes and with 16 parents based on family involvement scale results ;eight rating low and eight high.The conclusıon of the study ıs that 100 of parents (%33.7) has a low rate of involvement,108 of parents (%36.4) has a mediocre rate of involvement and 89 of parents (%30)has a hıgh rate and there is an acceptable and meanıngful relatıon between the scores of Maths,Turkısh,Scıence,Social Science obtained by the result of family involvement scale and home- based involvement scale.The result of family involvement scale differs mainly from social economic rate but has a relation with age,sex,educatıonal situatıon,job and close interest.On the solution of the interview datums,content analysis technique is used.The analysis of the qualitaive datums ındıcate that although the communıcatıon of the families with teachers are proper, the involvement ın school-home exercises are insuffıcıent,family involvement increase student success and necessarıly family -school partnershıp should be buılt.Teachers refer to the facts that they dont give works that necessıate family support,there are responsibilities concerning teachers,students and parents,performance works have effect on student success and mainly on positive sides and they use scales in evaluating performance works.Parents tell that they occasıonally meet teachers;on meetıng ,they use face to face communıcatıon,partıcıpatıng ın meetings held in school and on the phone.They thınk they involve in school activities and follow the school life of their children, school-parent cooperation is necessary and they have impartant effect ın the school life of their children.They also refer that performance works necessiate searching,as parents they have responsibilities carrying out this and performance works usually have positive sides ,they give equal impartance to the works of all lessons and they believe teachers evaluate them justly.Keywords: Parent involvement, Performance Works,school-family cooperation.
