The view of teachers about teaching the value of responsibility in social studies lesson in the 6th grade of primary education

In this research it is aimed to determine the ideas of teachers about teaching the value of responsibility in the Social Studies lessons in the sixth grade of primary education and the place of teaching the value of responsibility in the Social Studies Education Set ( course book, workbook and teacher?s book)./The teachers of Social Studies who are present in Aksaray in 2007-2008 education year constitute the content of the research. 95 Teachers of Social Studies who are selected randomly among the teachers Social Studies in the Primary Schools in Aksaray constitute the illustration of the research.In the research a questionaire has been developed by the researcher as a mean of getting data. The questionaire is formed from three sections. The personal informations about the teachers such as gender, seniority, branch, the faculty from which they were graduated constitute the first section of the questionaire. 27 elements prepared in the type of 5 scaled likert which are used for measuring the ideas of teachers about the value of responsibility constitute the second section of the questionaire. In the third section of the questionaire there are 14 elements which are prepared in the type of 5 scaled likert in order to measure the ideas of teachers about teaching the value of responsibility in the Social Studies Education Set. As the expressions which form the 2nd and 3rd sections of the questionaire are in 5 scaled likert type, the views of teachers are enlisted in the program SPSS 15.0 and the data of the research have been analyzed through this program. The data of the research have been analyzed not only by frequency, percentage (%), average, statistics of standart deviation but also by variants analysis (ANOVA) and the statics of t test. In the research the meaningfulness level is counted as 0.05.In the research the results below are reached:1- According to teachers? genders, employment period in the job, the department from which they were graduated, the number of participating the studies to inform about the new curriculum programme and the place in which they work; there could not be found any meaningful difference between their ideas about teaching the value of responsibility and the place of responsibility in the Social Studies Education Set.2- Teachers find themselves adequate about teaching the value of responsibility.3- It can be said that most of the teachers use the new approaches about teaching the values for teaching the value of responsibility.4- 55 percent of the teachers think that the course book is lack of teaching value of responsibility.On the other hand, 33 percent of them think that the course book is sufficient about teaching the value of responsibility.5- 33 percent of the teachers opinioned that workbook and teacher?s book are not complimental about teaching the value of responsibility. But 41 percent of the teachers opinioned that workbook and teacher?s book are complimental about teaching the value of responsibility.
