Subject: The Comparison of Some Physical Fitness Levels of Primar y School Children Name and Surname: Cüneyt KILIÇ Advisor: Prof.Dr. Kemal TAMER Department: Physical Education and Sports Year: 2007 Degr ee: Master of Science SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the growth and physical st th fitness levels of Tur kish childr en in elementary school fr om 1 to 5 grade. In this study, 1024 volunteer students (544 boys and 480 girls) chosen randomly in three elementary schools fr om central anatolian region were participated. Test battery consisted of body mass index, sit and reach test, 30 sec sitÂup test, 30 sec pushÂup test, 20 m speed run test and to measure cardioÂvascular per for mance with 800 m run or walk for 1 Â3 d class level and 1600 m run or walk for 4 Â5 class level. st r th th The results show that height of the subjects had no significant differences according to sex at .05 confidence level, but there was a significant difference in body weight at the .05 significance level. However, significant differ ences were found in body mass index of five groups. The class level of the students also showed significant differ ence on body mass index. Class  level and sex differences had no effects on flexibility [F (4Â501)=1,555; p> .05]. Significant differ ences were found in sitÂup, pushÂup, 20 m sprint, 800 m and 1600 m walk and run tests at .05 level.
