Effects of the activities that are done in the learning-teaching process in the primary school at fourth grade science lesson of the unit ?let's wander and learn the livings world? on the students? environmental knowledge, environmental attitude and the effects of these retention

In this study, it has been searched the education process of the 4th grade primary school science and technology lesson `?Let?s Wander And Know To the Living World?? unit, the students enviroment knowledge , their attitude towards enviroment and effect of these to their retentation. With this dimension, this study is a study in experimental design without control group, one group pre-post test. Also, because the ideas of the students were determined in this study, the study requires an qualitative dimension. The study group in this study is consisted of one of the 4th grade of the state primary school in Reyhanlı, a town of Hatay state. Twelve of the students are girls, fifteen of them are boys. İt has been stated, that eight students come from a family whose income is more than 0-600 tl, the nineteen come from a family whose income is between 600-1000 tl according to their monthly income. Nine student?s mother and six student?s father is illiterate. The study statistics is achieved in a process;, pre- measurement, practise, post measurement, retention measurement and interview in 2008-2009 academic year. The practise has realized in twenty class hour for five weeks. Ministry of education predicts that science and tchnology lesson in 4th grade should be teached four hours per week. So, it has been done any change in science and technology lesson?s weekly lesson period, for the practise it has been allocated two days and two lesson period a week. In the study as a data collection device , it has been used environmental attitudes, enviroment knowledge test, semi structured interview form and personal information form.İt has been stated that after the practise, all student?s both measurement points are more than the points before they got the practise. İts also stated that, especially some kind of students have more positive improvemets in enviroment knowledge and attitude after the practise. These are: school girls liken to school boys, students who has higher income than others, the students whose mother and father has beter educational level than others. In interviews, student?s enjoyment from the activites and practice during the lesson, their high motivation, active participation, expressing themselves without difficulty and learning easliy have been observed. While students have been stated that the things they lean from the activities performed interaction with nature are more permanent , they also wanted such activites for the other lessons.Key words: environmental education, environmental knowledge, environmental attidute, environmental awaraness, primary education.
