Student misbehaviors in elementary school first grade level and suggestions for solutions

The research has been done to find which dealing methods use the elementary schools first grade level teachers towards the prevention and management of the student misbehavior they encounter.9 official and 1 private elementary schools? first grade level teachers who work in İzmir city in Narlıdere district in 2007-2008 education-instruction year constitute the environment and the sample of the research.The survey which has been prepared by the researcher in order to collect datas, consists of total 46 questions, besides there are 7 items related to independent variables (gender, age, professional length of service, the school which the teachers graduated from, the class which they teach, the student number of the class, monthly income)In the analyze of the data derived from the survey applied, frequency (f), percent (%) and arithmetic average ( ) calculations have been done, and t-test and Single Side Variance Analyze have been utilized to determine whether there are significant differences between the groups.The following results have been acquired from the research:At the end of the analysis, it is determined that the teachers? most preferable preventive approaches are ?I call my students by their name. I respect their personalities. ?, ?I explain which behavior is appropriate and which behavior is not clearly.?, ?I don?t make discriminations among my students, I will be fair and impartial.?, ?My students select the president of the class. It is also determined that the administrative approaches which the teachers prefer most are ?I maintain eye contact.?, "I emphasize appropriate behavior.", "I remind them the consequences of their behaviors.", "I remind the class rules to the class, without saying the student's name." and "I talk to their parents."By the point of independent variables, two differentiations have been found among the teachers? opinions regarding to the prevention and the management of the student misbehaviors in classrooms.Firstly, with respect to the schools that the teachers have graduated from, there is a significant differentation at the teachers' opinions regarding to the management of the student misbehavior, and secondly with respect to the schools where the teachers work, there is a significant differentation at the teachers' opinions regarding to the preventing of the student misbehavior, both at the level of p?0,05.Key Words: Classroom Management, Behavior Management, Student Misbehavior, The Prevention of Student Misbehavior, The Management of Student Misbehavior.
