The perceptions of social studies teachers who is responsible for sixth and seventh classes concerning the role of social studies courses in democracy education

03. Summary The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of Social Studies teachers who is responsible for sixth and seventh classes concerning the role of social studies courses in democracy education. Qualitative research methodology was under taken in this study. A structured interview was used as data collection tool. The interview form consists of 7 chapters which contain 31 open-ended questions and short answers. It was taken some of the Social Studies- teachers working in primary school in Trabzon as study-population. 40 teachers joined the study working at primary schools in Akçaabat. Random sampling was used in order to choose sampling. Collected data were presented as "qualitive and quantitive". The perceptions of Social Studies teachers who is responsible for sixth and seventh classes concerning the role of social studies courses in democracy education were determined in this study. In the light of the data it seems that, the curriculum of Social Studies Lessons and also books use in sixth and seventh classes have poor effect on democracy education. In addition to, most of the teachers who were included in this study have not got enough information level on the subject of "democracy education" and the professional sufficiency were determined in this study.
