Examination of distance education process of primary education mathematics teachers: A case study

In this study, it is aimed to examine and reveal the mathematics lesson applications of primary school mathematics teachers in emergency online education and their understanding of this process. The research method was adopted qualitatively and designed as a holistic multiple case study. The collection, analysis and interpretation of the data took place in this direction. Criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods, was used in the selection of the participants of the study. Two primary school mathematics teachers working in a public school in Kocaeli in the 2020-2021 academic year were selected as participants on a voluntary basis in line with predetermined criteria, which will serve to explain the situations examined by the researcher. In order to minimize any systematic error that may occur in the process of collecting the data of the research, the triangulation approach, in which multiple methods and techniques are used together, was adopted. In this context, the data of the research were collected with the video recordings of the semi-structured interviews, the lecture videos of the participants and the teacher documents used in the process. The data of the research were analyzed by using the descriptive analysis method within the framework created by the researcher based on the literature. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that although the teachers had a general idea about distance education, they had difficulties in process management, especially in course applications. It has been noticed that they are inadequate in various processes of teaching such as presenting the content, course management, measurement and evaluation.
