Abstract (EN)

In every period of life social interaction is always of high imortance. Due toswift social changes individuals are in need of greater knowledge and skills for theireveryday lives. In nowadays world, if we want children to live an active life, we have tohelp them gain the knowledge and skills for getting along with othersat an early age(Altõnköprü, 1979:133 ). The behaviour that has to be learned can be named ....socialskillis.... Social skills lead to acceptance by society and to valuable behaviour foroneself and for others. Adequate social skills help oneself in building healthier socialrelationships. Humans are social beings. Thus, people always favour living togetherwith others. Whereas this approach is comfortable for some, it appears to be differentfor others and can lead to social phobic, reserved, discomforting, etc. stituations. Andthat is where social skills get involved.This thesis aims at measuring the impact of Social Knowledge subjects as theyare currently taught in Primary Schools in Türkiye on the development of social skillsof pupils, and at identifying the relation between academic success and social skillslevel. For it, in the first part of the paper research about the term of social skills has beencompleted, and, in the second part, the social skills level of selected pupils from fiveschools in Karşõyaka have been measured and the results have been analysed viaappropriate statistical tools.
