Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to investigate the environmental consciousness of primary school teachers and environmental education at schools they work. In the survey, the teachers took a questionnaire and a list of questions, and the survey was held through using descriptive model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. In the study, 280 primary school teachers who were currently working in 2014 – 2015 educational year, were used, and in order to acquire the data to be used, Educational Consciousness Survey, which was translated into Turkish by Erten (2002; 2003), Environmental Education Question List, which was generated by Buhan (2006) were used. The data acquired at the end of the survey were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 statistics program. The environmental consciousness of primary school teachers were observed by being separated into knowledge, attitude and behavior sub – headings, and at the end of the analyses carried out, the result that, although teachers generally have a positive attitude towards the environment, they don't have adequate knowledge, and they are not qualified enough to turn their positive attitudes into behaviors, has been reached.
