The assesment of primary schools from the angle of effective school consept (the example of Batman city)

ABSTRACTIt is a commonly known fact that education in today?s world is of anindispensable importance. The places are schools, where our education which laststhroughout our life, is maintained systematically. How far can the schools whichmaintain their activities so as to be able to realise particular aims reach their goals as aresult of so much effort and toil used in this field? The answer to this question issearched for by means of effective school researches.In this study which has been carried out for this aim, according to theperceptions of school administrators and teachers working in primary schools, theyhave aimed at determining whether there is a significance difference between thevariations of the school administrators and teachers? perceptions at every level, theschools where they graduated from, the years of their experience, sex, the type of schoolbeing worked in, and also to what extent the primary school administrators, teachers,school environment (culture), students and their parents (vicinity) are effective. The ?Description-Survey? method has been used in this research.The overall survey consists of 1676 administrators and teachers 35 of whomwork in state primary schools and 3 of whom work in private primary schools in thecentre of Batman province in the education year of 2003-2004. The sampling of thesurvey has been constituted of 82 administrators and 635 teachers. In collecting the data? Effective School Survey? has been used. The analysis of the data gathered at the endof the survey has been done by making use of the 12.0 Windows programme for SPSS(Statistical package for the Social Science). In the analysis and interpretation of thedata, t-test, variant analysis (one-way) and scheffé test have been made use of. The levelof significance has been taken as 0.05.As a summary the following results have been obtained at the end of the dataanalysis:1- According to the graduation variant, there has been found significantdifference at the dimension of ? school environment?, ?students? and ?studentsparents? among the perceptions of the primary school administrators and teachers.2- According to the occupation seniority variant, there has been foundsignificant difference at the dimension of ? school environment?, ?students? and?students parents? among the perceptions of the primary school administrators andteachers.3- According to the school type variant, there has not been found any significantdifference among the perceptions of the primary school administrators and teachers (thedimension of school headmaster, teachers, school environment, students and studentsparents).4- According to the sex variant, there has been found significant difference atthe dimension of the ?students? with the perceptions of the primary schooladministrators and teachers.5- According to the degree being worked variant, there has not been found anysignificant difference among the perceptions of the primary school I. degree and II.degree teachers (the dimension of school headmaster, teachers, school environment,students and students parents).6- According to the status in school variant, there has been observed significantdifference at the dimension of ?school headmaster? with the perceptions of headmasterand assistant principals.7- When the perceptions of administrators and teachers compared, there hasbeen found significant difference at the dimension of ? school headmaster ?, ? schoolenvironment? and ?students?.8- According to the perception of teachers and administrators at primary schoolthe effectivenes of primary schools has turned out to be at mean degree.
