The effect of the administrator?s social responsibility on the school attachment of the 6th, 7th and 8th graders

In developing and changing world, in addition to being an institution where only knowledge is given to students, schools has also become a system which attaches its students to itself and in this way renders them successful. The perception of educational administration, in particular, has changed substantially, and administering a school has started to be perceived as considering the school as a whole with all its components rather than disciplining. In this context of perception, school administrators perform more social responsibility activities regarding their students attachment to school, and they consider this to be a duty.In this study, it is intended to reveal the effect of the administrator?s social responsibility on students? attachment to school, considering various independent variables of the students participated in the research. To this end, a total of 342 students attending 5 different schools (2 private and 3 state) affiliated with Şişli District National Education Directorate are reached randomly for the research. In the study, a questionnaire which is prepared by researchers and finalized by considering expert advice is used. Data gathered are analyzed by using appropriate statistical techniques with SPSS-16 Statistics Software.When the results examined, it is seen that there are meaningful differences with regard to each independent variable (i.e. gender, type of school, grade level, mother?s educational status and father?s educational status). Again it is deduced from the results that students, with respect to their school attachment usually, expect three things most from their schools: provision of technological opportunities, possibility to express themselves and their opinions, and more social activities in the school environment. Besides, results of the study are discussed and various proposals are presented accordingly.
