The leadership styles of principals and supervisors based on primary school teachers' perceptions

The purpose of this research is to determine the extent of leadership styles of school principals and supervisors according to the primary school teachers? perceptions; to find out whether teachers? perceptions of leadership styles of school principals and supervisors vary according to certain variables and to find out whether there is a significant difference between leadership styles of school principals and supervisors according to the primary school teachers? perceptions.In this reearch which is descriptive, a three parts survey is used to collect research data. In the first part of the research, there are items related to personal data of the teachers and in the second part, there are items about the extent of school principles? leadership styles they use and in the third part there are items to identify supervisors? leadership styles according to the primary school teachers? perceptions.The research sample consists of 380 primary school teachers in working in 26 primary schools in the 5 central districts of Izmir. This descriptive study is carried out in 2011-2012 academic year. In data analysis frequency, percent (%), arithmetic average ( ), standard deviation (SS), t- test, Anova and LSD tests were used. According to the research results in teachers? assesment of primary school principals? leadership styles, while primary school principals? leadership styles have differences in terms of teachers? gender, age, the lenght of service and branch, there is no differences in terms of teachers? educational level.According to the results in teachers? assesment of supervisors? leadership styles, there is no significant differnces in terms of gender. According to age, education level lenght of service and branch variable, there are significant differences in teachers? assesment of supervisors? leadership styles. Teachers? perceptions of primary school principals? leadership styles are higher than their percetions of supervisors? leadership styles.
