The aim of this study is; to search the level of vocational self-esteem of primary school administrators who work for the Ministry of Education. A survey has been conducted in İstanbul; Bağcılar, Beşiktaş, Eminönü, Fatih districts. The survey was developed by Arıcak (1999) and it is a vocational self-esteem scale. Also a personal infonnation fonn has been used. The sample consists of 121 administrators (98 males, 23 females) and the results are assessed in SPSS. Data has been collected in 2005-2006 and analised in line with the sub-aims. The infonnation related to the administrators is presented in percentages or frequencies. The relationship between two constant variables has been assessed by Pearson Correlation Test ; the difference between two group dispersion has been assessed by t-test. The difference between more than two groups has been done by using one-way variance test technique. The results of the study is summarized below: 39.7 % of the administrators are gratuated from open university undergraduate programme. 24% of the administrators are gratuated from education faculties, 14 % of them are from the other undergraduate programmes. Nevertheless, a graduate or postgraduate degree is expected from the administrators. Whereas only 4.1 % of them (5 people) have , a graduate or postgraduate degree. 51.2% of the administrators (62 people) are between the age of 41 and 51, 25.6% ofthem are over 51. The administrators being elderly shows that there is no scientific evidence in choosing them; only seniority counts. There is no meaningful difference between the opinions of male and female administrators. As a result it can be said that sex diffefence has no meaningful effect on the vocational seifesteem. AIso there is no meaningful statistical difference among the opinions of different age groups. With respect to the branch, the self-esteems of the administrators who are Science and Maths garduates are higher compared to the other branches. To see the the meaningfulness of this difference one-way variance test is used. As a result the difference is not meaningfuL. The self-esteems of the teachers whose in-service durations are between 11-20 are higher than the ones whose duartion is between 1-10. To see the the meaningfulness of this difference oneway variance test is used. As a result the difference is meaningful (p<0.05). Multiunit Scheffe Test related to vocational self-esteem, shows that there is a significant difference between the administrators who have 11-20 years in-service and 1-10 years inservice (pKeyword: Benlik kavramı = Self concept ; Benlik saygısı = Self esteem ; Eğitim yönetimi = Educational administration ; Mesleki benlik saygısı = Occupational self-esteem ; Yöneticiler = Managers ; İlköğretim = Primary education ; İlköğretim okulları = Primary education schools
