The teachers perception about the citizenship and human rights course in primary curricula in Manisa

The aim of this study, is to determine and evaluate the teacher?s view about the citizenship and human rights course in primary school.This study deals with the achievement of the objectives of the course; suitability of the subjects to the objectives, to the learners? development level, to their interest and need and to their social atitudes; teaching methods and tecniques; quality of the course book; evaluation methods and teachers? behaviour.İn this study, a questionnaire which was developed by Koca (1998) and modified and applied by Arıkan (2002) was used as a data collection method. This questionnaire was applied to the teachers who teach citizenship and human rights course in primary schools in Manisa. The answers of the questionnaire were analyzed by used SPSS programme.At the and of this study, teachers think that the objectives of the programme haven?t been achieved completely, but subjects in this course are suitable for the objectives of the programme and also subjects are related. They pointed out that they mostly use presentation and question and answer method, and the course book hasn?t got the required qualities. Teachers have been using the using the multiple choice and questions more often. They also emphasized that teacher?s behaviour plays on important role in teaching effectively.Key Words: citizenship, human rigths, citizenship and human rights course
