The contribution of the map use in social studies at the elementary school to the education and reaching the psycho-motor aims

The goal of this study is to put forward and evaluate the level of the map use which takes part among the psychomotor behaviors in the Social Studies of primary education. In the study, psychomotor skills, the importance of Social Studies, the equipment used in the lessons of Social Studies, the problems in the tuition of Social Studies and the activities to improve the map skills are the topics we dwelt on. Also the maps and map activities in the course books of Social Studies at 4th and 5th class which are published including the new program have been examined. In order to learn the circumstances of the teachers? map use in the tuition of Social Studies at 4th and 5th class and the maps available in our schools, a questionnaire about the topic has been developed. This questionnaire has been applied to the class teachers of 4th and 5th class in the central schools in Demirci and Gördes, in Manisa besides the class teachers of 4th and 5th class in some village schools. The answers given to the questionnaire has been interpreted by ANOVA and t-test in SPSS packet program. At the end of the enquiry such a result has been obtained that the maps in the schools are inadequate and the teachers think that they aren?t aware of some concepts about maps and the map use in the lessons of Social Studies is insufficient.
