An analysis of primary school 3rd grade Turkish language texbook text in terms of root values

The aim of this study is to examine the texts in the 3rd grade Turkish language textbook in terms of root values, to determine their freguency and to identify their association with attitudes and behaviors. The study was conducted using a qualitative Research method. The text in the 3rd grade Turkish language textbook prepared by SDR İpekyolu Publishing constituted the data of the study and document analisis method was employed to obtain the data. In the study, the root values determind by the ministry of National Education and the able of attitudes and behaviors related to these values were utilized to identify the root values. Descriptive analysis method was used in examining the data. When all the texts in the book where examined, it was observed that all root values where included, but it was determined that the distribution of root values was not proportional. As a result of the examinations, it was found that the most emphasized root value is kidness. This is followed by love, friedship and self-control respectively. The least emphasized root values was not proportional, it was found to be consistent with the content of the texts used. It was determined that the texts are suitable for conveying root values. The importance of the selection of the texts and the distribution of root values is emphasized in the conclusion of the study.
