Investigation of the relationship between the vocabulary, speaking anxiety and writing anxiety of primary school 4th grade students

The main purpose of the research is to determine the relationship between vocabulary, speaking anxieties and writing anxieties in fourth graders and to determine whether vocabulary, speaking and writing anxieties differ according to demographic variables. For this purpose, correlational model was used as the research model in the study. The study was conducted in the 2022-2023 academic year with a total of 758 primary school fourth grade students from nine primary schools with different socioeconomic levels, randomly selected from the Şehitkamil district center of Gaziantep province. The data of the study were collected by "Vocabulary Test", "Class Speaking Anxiety Scale", "Writing Anxiety Scale for Primary School Education" and "Personal Information Form". The data obtained in the research were analyzed with the SPSS 26.0 package program. Arithmetic mean and standard deviation calculations were made with the data obtained, and t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Multiplication of Moments Correlation Coefficient programming analyzes were performed. The findings resulting from the analysis of the data revealed that fourth graders in primary schools have a medium level of vocabulary, a low level of speaking anxiety and a medium level of writing anxiety. According to the research opportunity, a negative, low-significant relationship is possible between vocabulary level and speaking and writing anxieties. A moderately significant relationship with positive aspects was detected between speaking anxieties and writing anxieties.
