Examination of the values quality the characters in the primary grade 4. social studies textbook

The purpose of this research; It is the examination of the values that characterize the characters in the primary school 4th grade Social Studies textbook. In the research, document analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. "Primary School 4th Grade Social Studies Textbook" was chosen as the data collection source. During the research phase, "Primary School 4th Grade Social Studies Textbook" was examined and the characters in the book were determined. Characterizations were made within the framework of the characteristics of the determined characters. Then, considering the characteristics of the characters, it was tried to reveal which character represents which value/values. The type of analysis preferred in this study is the descriptive analysis approach. According to the results of the research, one hundred and twenty-four (124) characters were used in the value transfer process of the 4th grade Social Studies textbook of primary school. It was observed that ninety-six (96) of these characters used were live characters and twenty-two (22) were inanimate characters. It was concluded that ninety-five (95) live characters were chosen from human characters and one (1) from animal characters. When looking at the human characters, it was seen that sixty-one (61) of them were male characters and thirty-four (34) of them were female characters. It is concluded that each of these determined characters represents at least one value. However, it has also been seen that some characters represent more than one value. Considering the values represented by the characters, it was seen that the most emphasized values on the characters were sensitivity, scientificness and respect, respectively, while the least emphasized values were patience, perseverance, honesty and aesthetic values, especially peace. It has been observed that the values ​​that characterize the characters are prepared in parallel with the root values ​​in the Social Studies Curriculum and the values ​​in the Basic Law of National Education.
