Analyzing teachers' and parents' vievs about elementary school first grade curriculum

This research has been conducted to determine the views of the elementary school first grade teachers, who works in the schools of Adana's central districts, and the parents of the first grade students, who are educated in these schools, about the curriculum of the first grade of elementary school. In the research which was modelled as descriptive, mixed method, in which both quantitative and qualitative techniques are used together, was used. In the quantitative part the survey and in the qualitative part the interview technique was used. The research was done on the two different groups with whom survey and interview were done. The workgroup which is surveyed is consisted of 265 first grade teachers who work in schools in different socio-economic leves. On the other hand the workgroup on which interview was made, consisted of 14 parents of first grade students and 14 first grade teachers who work in schools in different socio-economic leves. The data obtained in the survey have been analyzed in the program "SPSS for windows ver:17.0", percent age and frequency values were examined. Qualitative datas were analyzed as descriptive. The findings are presented as charts for purposes of research. In the result of the research, it was seen that the teachers mostly don't join to the opinion that the pupils 60-66 months start to school, they are at the opinion that the purpose of the program is not suitable for the level of 60-month students. Teachers found the aims of the program partly consistent with each other. Teachers found the purpose of the program at an accessible level. But the teachers pointed out that being together in the same class of students who are 60-66-72 and higher months makes difficult to access the aims. Although, teaching of reading and writing has been doing by handwriting, teachers are in the opinion that writing vertical basic letters of the texts in the course boks create problem. According to the research results, advices are given that the children who are 60-66 months should be guided to pre-school education and the program should be reviewed in terms of aim, content, efficiency, valuation and conformity to the level.
