Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research was to determine geometric thinking levels of fourth grade students in primary school by using geometric thinking leveling test developed on the basis of geometry achievements of elementary school fourth grade mathematics course and to examine the relation between geometric thinking achievement scores and some demographic variables. The participants consisted of 429 students who attended 10 different elementary schools representing different socio-economic levels and selected using simple random sampling. The students responded to a data collection tool composed of a geometric thinking level test and a sociodemographic information form. In order to test research hypothesis, frequency and percentage distribution, independent samples t-test, One Way Analysis of Variance were used. When testing research hypotheses, the error rate was set at .05 for statistical analysis. As a result of the data analysis, it was found that the geometric thinking level of the fourth grade students in the primary school was low. In addition, the geometric thinking success scores was associated with gender, parental education level, mother and father occupation, and computer use opportunities at home. Keywords: fourth grade students, geometric thinking levels, geometric thinking achievement scores, demographic variables.
