Investigation of digital parenting self-efficacy levels of primary school students' parents

Abstract (EN)

The impact of screen use on children is becoming increasingly frightening. It is vital for parents to have a conscious and determined attitude for the healthy development of children. Being a parent in the digital age has become more difficult and important than ever. In this study, the digital parenting self-efficacy of primary school students' parents was examined. At the same time, parents' digital parenting self-efficacy levels; It was tried to determine whether the data differed according to the variables of age, parental role, educational status, occupation, income level and number of children. The population of this research consists of parents who have primary school students in the Eastern Anatolia Region. The sample consists of 301 parents who have students in primary schools in Erciş district of Van province. The "Digital Parenting Self Efficacy Scale", developed by Yaman (2017) and determining parents' competencies regarding digital technologies, was used to collect data. At the same time, the data obtained from the "Digital Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale" was checked to evaluate the data. Among the quantitative research methods, the survey model was preferred as the research model. Statistics such as Independent Sample t-Test, Mann-Whitney U test, One way analysis of variance, Kruskal Wallis Test were preferred in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that parents saw themselves as moderately competent in terms of digital communication, digital literacy and digital parenting self-efficacy, while they saw themselves as sufficient in terms of digital security self-efficacy. At the same time, according to the research results, when digital parenting self-efficacy was examined according to various variables, there was a significant difference in some variables, while no significant difference was found in some variables. It was determined that parents' digital parenting self-efficacy beliefs differ according to age, income level and education level variables, but do not differ according to parental role, number of children and profession variables.
