Evaluation of courses organized for primary school students in public education centers

The aim of this research is to reveal the opinions of teachers, parents and course trainers about the courses organized in public education centers for primary school students. In the study carried out with the basic qualitative research design, the data was obtained through semi-structured interview forms prepared by the researcher. Research data were analyzed using the descriptive method. The research, of which group was selected by the easy accessibility method, consists of 7 course instructors who took part in the courses organized by the Public Education Center of the Adilcevaz district of Bitlis province, six parents from the parents of the students who participated in the classes, and six teachers from the teachers of these students. Opinions were obtained from the course instructors, parents, and teachers in the study group on a voluntary basis. As a result of the research, it was seen that the students participated in the courses for different purposes. Research findings show that public education center courses have academic, social, and emotional effects on primary school students. It is seen that the reasons for students to attend the courses are the need for social activities, requests of parents, being influenced by classmates, and self-improvement. On the other hand, it is seen fact that the course instructors and classroom teachers do not communicate enough about how well students make progress in the courses. Furthermore, it was seen that some primary school students were not able to attend the classes due to transportation problems and the low purchasing power to buy the materials used in the classes. It is seen that students who have to use public transportation have difficulties attending the courses. It is suggested to increase the promotional activities of the courses, to make up for the shortages of the materials used in the courses, to prepare proper courses for primary school students, to take measures related to transportation according to the schedule, to enhance the communication between the course instructors and the classroom teachers of the students attending the courses.
